Danish pet food ingredients group BHJ acquired Australian pet food manufacturer Staughton Group for A$100 million. Staughton's Murray River Pet Foods division was retained separately by the Staughton family. Staughton reported A$156.9m revenue in 2022, up from A$132.1m in 2021.
Why the buyer wanted it
BHJ, an international pet food raw materials and ingredients supplier since 1969, wanted a manufacturing platform in the fast-growing Australian pet food market.
Why the seller agreed
The Staughton family (which had taken US growth capital from AGR Partners in 2021) exited the Cool Off raw pet food business while retaining the separate Murray River Pet Foods division.
